Don’t worry, we won’t do a Patreon because we’re not teenage girls on YouTube

On a pretty regular basis, I take some heat for my undying love of YouTube vloggers, but when it comes to running PretendRaceCars.net, there are certain lines we’ve sworn we wont cross.

The first line, is shilling. A shill, as defined by Urban Dictionary, is a person (or people) engaged in covert advertising. The shill attempts to spread buzz by personally endorsing the product in public forums with the pretense of sincerity, when in fact he is being paid for his services. While it’s true that there are some perks that come with being on the journalistic side of things now, PRC won’t suddenly become overrun with content praising one game unlike other publications. The second line, is selling out. And there’s a couple of ways we could accomplish this, from heavy advertisements, to starting something goofy, like a patreon. We aren’t going to give people the option to pay us simply for existing – the whole concept seems geared towards teenage girls on YouTube too socially awkward or self-centered to apply for a job at Starbucks.

I wouldn’t pay either of these people to sit at home playing on YouTube and making pointless Tweets all day, because once you hit seventeen, you’re actually supposed to go outside and do something with your life. Not beg people to give you money for doing nothing on the internet.

For the low, low price of $6,500 per month, Team VVV can hire an editor for their site on your dollar! Now, I like Team VVV and have enjoyed their Driveclub stuff immensely, but I don’t like them enough to drop $6,500 on them so a few more YouTube videos get put out. Policemen and Firemen don’t even make that much, and they’re saving people’s lives, not writing about pretend race cars.
