Why not mirror the Commodore and slap Chevrolet badges on it?

2013 Gen 6 V8SCWith Reiza Studios dropping the 2014 Holden Commodore on us yesterday for Game Stock Car Extreme, discussion inevitably popped up about the difficulties some are having when adapting to sitting on the right hand side of the car. Given that the real world V8 Supercars championship is contested only within the confines of the Oceania continent, it makes sense that all V8 Supercars created for simulations like rFactor or Stock Car Extreme have you sitting on the appropriate side of the cockpit.

Or does it?

RHDAbove is a hypothetical 2013 Chevrolet SS V8 Supercars Concept created by basic template and image mirroring, as the current Australian Commodore and American SS are essentially the same car. It’s not going to be a lengthy or detailed demand, but given that third party modifications to video games do not require hundreds of thousands of dollars from General Motors to build a purpose built race car, what’s stopping a mod team from mirroring the Holden Commodore model so you sit on the left side of the cockpit and slapping Chevrolet badges on it as a cool bonus?

Absolutely nothing.

  1. It’s so funny that americans and europeans are complaining about sitting on the other side of the car, when aussies have to use the other side of the car for 99% of simracing content and don’t complain.

    1. Uk,india, south africa, indonesia and much of the pacific islands and dont forget us Kiwis,if some yanks having issue’s driving right hand drives, then thats the drivers problem and maybe your not as shit hot driver then you think, also keep in mind, in our V8’s we turn right as well left so shouldn’t really matter what side driver is eh?

  2. I can’t believe that Reiza still haven’t been able to offer a right hand driver version of the Mini Cup Car. I drive a right hand drive car every day and I just can’t bare the thought of driving my pretend race car from the left side. It ruins my sense of self-entitlement, and I believe Reiza should be personally catering for me.

    1. You’ve got a legitimate argument even if you’re trying to troll. iRacing offers both LHD and RHD versions of the Mazda Miata, and the Mini itself is RHD in its country of origin. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bust out a RHD Mini for GSCX.

      1. I believe that is because the Miata or MX-5 is exported around the world and Mazda is far more larger and significant than Holden, and while we do export a form of our Commodore to some left-hand drive markets, the series this mod is based on is still an Australian touring car series that drive on the right. I’d kill to see more right hand drive cars in all sims I play, but I like how they stay true to their form, despite the cars also being available here and in the UK in right hand drive variants.

  3. I can’t believe Reiza won’t flat out use the Chevrolet name on my pretend Chevrolet look a-like. How dare they!

Despite our boy James not realizing Reiza didn’t really have the appropriate the license to do so. So we feel self entitled to circumvent the issue ourselves.

“LICENSE INFRINGEMENT” as they say, and as you say James “Muh Copyrights”

I mean, that last part is in BOLD, how did you miss it?

      1. Could guys have one comment section that doesn’t say SRD stalker when some makes a point you don’t agree with. Its getting pretty lame, I am feeling a little sad for you.

      3. the best is when hijinx tried to say james was beat up by a girl. i mean what does that even have to do with sim racing news? how can these people be so hypocritical?

  4. LMPs (even the ones that are American designed, built, etc.) are majority RHD, apparently racing drivers are mostly flexible enough to sit left/right/center as it suits the car, and the cars are designed for the series they race in.

Would you really want to drive a mirrored car with backwards gauges and the fast pedal on the left? RHD/LHD aren’t actually symmetric, there are countless small things that don’t just get mirrored (in the Mini’s case it’s running on the same unibody so it’s actually got a blanked hole for the 2nd steering column & set of pedals under the carpet)

  5. I was take back when I loaded in to it the first time. After that guess what I adjusted!

I didnt bitch and moan and whine about it.

If you dont like it just go make a mod then ffs.

The are very limited in what they can do right now because the dont have the rights to a lot of the things (cars.tracks). Hopefully that will change for the next one.

Sorry but your butthurt doesnt require an article – adjust or dont drive it.
dont like it – make a mod.

    1. Wall, I did notice at first and thought ‘that’s cool, I’m glad they got it right’. Seconds later, I was driving and never thought about it again.

      1. I love the sim racing community:

        1) Whine in the comments section of a blog when a pretend race car doesn’t “feel” like a real race car despite never actually driven a real race car to actually compare the two.

        2) Further whine in the comments section of a blog when a modding team does their best to accurately represent a particular car or series but fails to offer a fantasy version because you don’t like which side your fake steering wheel sits.

        3) Have some people from a pretend racing car forum come and derail a comments section of an article because all have a personal vendetta against each other for reasons unknown because it happened so long ago they don’t know why it began in the first place.

Sometimes I feel I could fire up my old Xbox 360, throw in a copy of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and find a less autistic, entitled and cancerous gaming community to come into contact with (well, I could also check out League of Legends, that’s also pretty fucked up from what I hear).
