Virginia International Raceway coming to Forza Motorsport 6 with the Porsche Expansion Pack

Listed on earlier today, a digital code for the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 Porsche Expansion Pack appears to have surfaced; a hefty premium DLC package that will retail for $20 and also include Virginia International Raceway. The track first gained notoriety among hardcore sim racers for it’s inclusion in the Motorsports Simulation software, being used as a mock Nurburgring Nordschleife for organized endurance races.

The Forza Motorsport 6 Porsche Expansion pack marks the third time Turn 10 Studios will release a massive DLC bundle featuring cars from the iconic German automobile manufacturer, as an exclusivity deal with Electronic Arts forces developers who aren’t under the watchful eye of EA to negotiate with the developer in an effort to acquire what appear to be temporary rights. Both Forza Motorsport 4 on the Xbox 360, as well as Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One have received similar Porsche-themed expansion packs well after the game’s release, so this bundle comes as no surprise to longtime Forza Motorsport fans.

To circumvent the expensive licensing agreement between Porsche and Electronic Arts, many developers opt to forego the lengthy process altogether and instead use aftermarket tuning company RUF in their place. As RUF changes enough with the stock Porsche products to be considered a brand new car, the cheeky loophole has allowed the German brand to still consistently appear in a plethora of different racing games.

  1. Microsoft likely doesn’t pay as much to use this license as one might expect. EA and ms have what appears to be a great and mutually beneficial relationship. The EA access service offered on the Xbox one is a really fantastic deal. 10% off all EA products, 5 hours of demo time with the full game and access to games in the vault. Its likely a major profit driver for ea and ms gets a cut as well.

Its not hard to imagine EA gifting Microsoft the license which would explain why you don’t see Porsche in Sony exclusive titles. Sony turned EA down on EA access for ps4 so they could use that garbage remote rendering technology in PS now…a service that nobody uses and cost Sony significant investment to attain and continue to run. There is so much latency most genres are unplayable.

I rented a couple games from the service to test it, one game was a racing title and on my connection which is 100mbps:30mbps with incredibly low latency connection to Sony due to distance I still found input latency unbearable.

    I’ve gone off on a major tangent…

  2. Wasn’t the EA/Porsche deal set to expire soon or recently ?

Obviously if this pack is coming that’s no longer the case, but I recall seeing/hearing talk about it in a manner that might open the door for other games to finally include the marque.

    1. This exclusive Porsche deal was pretty good to RUF. They were unknown to everyone back in 1999, now everybody knows what’s a RUF: a technically superior Porsche.

  3. Not pricey ,considering you get a bunch of cars and track and kids always fall on Porsche (and Ferrari).

But since these Forza’s are now milked on a bi annual basis (FM,FH) for no other reason but selling same thing slightly re-packed 4 or 5 times in a console generation, things can get pretty costly > 4 x FM+season pass, per generation = cca. 400USD.Add some additional pack costs like this one and you’ll know why MS didn’t close this shop named T10 despite FM/FH not selling so good.

  4. 20 bucks would be a rip off without the track. Even with… It’s a bit steep. Does anyone feel like the forzavista feature/detail makes it seem like the cars are marginally better value than say an PCars or AC dlc?
