Will an 8th gen motherboard support 7th gen processor?

I do not have a exact answer for this question, but I will give some examples. For a 7 series CPU you need a z270 motherboard. This is a z370 series board for 8th generation CPUs. So it will not be compatible.

For 8 series CPU you need either an i7-8700K or an i7-8950HK processor. These are the most expensive CPUs in the market and require a high-end motherboard to run them properly. So if you want to buy one of these, you would need at least an i7 processor with at least two threads (i7-8700K or i7-8950HK) and memory up to 64GB on DIMM capacity (I am using 2x8GB DDR4 RAM).

What chipset does 7th Gen Intel use?

Intel's 7th Generation Kaby Lake Platform - 200-Series Chipset, LGA 1151 Compatibility Featuring Intel Optane Support.

Intel offers the following features for the Intel 7th Generation Kaby Lake platform:

Supports in-the-cloud file sharing and file encryption with support for USB 3.0 & 3.1 xHCI data lanes. Supports Windows 10 File System Protection and Data Protection with Windows Defender AntiVirus software anti-virus protection, anti-theft technology, mobile device management & security with Microsoft Lync 2013 conference Call Guard feature and Microsoft Office 2013 conference Call Guard feature in public mode only; Windows Hello Face Unlock Technology enable facial recognition without using a face recognizer; high performance graphics processor with HyperThreading Technology which improves performance by running multiple threads at the same time; TPM2 Security Enhancement Technology provides more secure data transmission between your PC and your chip while protecting your data from hackers or thieves alike; Advanced Graphics Interface Architecture (AGIA), which provides better control of hardware graphics interface operations across chipsets including integrated graphics processing units (IGPs) that can display content on displays independently of each other; Advanced Parallel Processing Technology enables developers to leverage parallel processing resources across both cores and threads while reducing load times on their applications; Display Port Support for DisplayHDR™ 4+4 + HDR10+, HDR01+, HLG01+, S3DLRDR5+ + S3DLRDR6 signals as well as DisplayPort 1.2 Support for DisplayHDR™ 4+4 + HDR10
