Turn 10 to Purchase Kunos Simulazioni?

Screenshot_porsche_997gt3rsr_nurburgring_3-7-2014-22-32-2

Have you happened to notice any obvious modifications to the banner above? A crudely inserted snippet of info which clearly indicates we’re deeper into the bowels of the sim racing scene than many of our critics would like to believe? There’s a reason for that.

We’ve received word from a trusted individual that the team at Turn 10 Studios – creators of the commercially successful Forza Motorsport line of Xbox exclusive car collecting simulators – are working on a deal to purchase Kunos Simulazioni. The move would no doubt serve to change the course of Assetto Corsa as a franchise. Many once believed the glaring set of issues and unfinished elements within Assetto Corsa would be rectified in the as of yet unannounced sequel, but Kunos developers themselves have admitted that no AC2 folder exists on their desktops. Instead, it now appears Kunos staff members will set off to aid in the development of Forza Motorsport 7 for the Xbox One and Windows 10.

Could this be an elaborate ruse to fuck with PRC.net? Absolutely. Could this business deal fall through behind closed doors at the eleventh hour? Of course.

However, the individual responsible for circulating this info was the same individual who informed us of Assetto Corsa’s next generation console plans, weeks before it was formally announced by the Kunos Simulazioni team themselves. Mr. 9000 Forum Posts simply has no idea what a non-disclosure agreement actually means, and even though we no longer have direct contact with him, those that do are quick to forward any info leaks directly to our inbox.

We’ll have more info as it becomes available.

  1. Aah they should be happy. Microsoft will certainly pay enough to ensure they never have to work again. AC is not big enough to be missed by a larger audience.

Forza will simply absorb parts of their physics engine and phase it out completely.

    1. No….thats backwards. The forza engine is an actual simulation engine. The isi engine is an approximation engine.

Forza is based a multimillion-dollar product commissioned by the insurance industry to test vehicle physics for safety and accident reasons and it is an incredibly accurate simulation engine that not only simulates the vehicle but also materials and atmospherics they just dial it back a little bit for the games so that everybody can play not just super hard core racing fans. There is no faking it in forza…aside from some of the prebaked lighting in daytime races.

If this rumor is true kunos would do nothing more than port the Xbox code to PC however since UWP means Microsoft just needs to click compile for windows instead of Xbox there is zero reason to buy this team unless they are just straight out looking to hire at Turn 10.

      1. What twaddle – keep telling yourself that crap and one day it might come true.

I thought console people were misguided; thanks for covering delusional too.

  2. Eh, if it turns out to be true it could be a good thing. Turn 10 certainly has the budgets to make things happen smaller teams can only dream about, a Forza with ACs handling would be *real* interesting to me.

That said, I’ll believe it when I see it.

  3. If this means that Forza begins to cater more to “serious racers” and the Multiplayer environment becomes less hostile/”crashy”, I’m all for it.

    1. Hostile and crashy is not the norm after the first 3 weeks. Plus If you want amazing races go to the forums and set some up. Its not difficult. Then you friend those people and like magic you have intense races without people smashing you on purpose.

  4. These kind of deals only ever end up with the PC userbase somehow getting fucked in the ass. So I fully expect that if this kind of deal happened, it would mean the end of the PC focused sims and a shift very much more towards console centric arcade garbage.

      1. Fun?!?! Whats that?? We want to lap forever alone in our poorly represented street super car against piss poor AI and pray nobody needs a pitstop. I think AC is already very close to the Forza crowd now.

        1. The so complete other sims don’t make you play more because of it. In fact I’d say you’ve already grown bored of your complete sims.

          1. Sure, that’s why nobody plays NR2003, GPL, rfactor1, grand prix4, race07 and other “complete” titles anymore…

I find amusing when people keep complaining about one specific game over and over. Is like they hate more one game than like the game they shill for.

      2. I’m not completely sure what it is you are getting at. However I do find AC “fun” (if somewhat incomplete I freely admit). In fact I was one of the more vocal people in the forums that was surprised when AC graduated to V1.0 without what I would say were “basic racing features”.

  5. Seems legit. I already thought about a connection between Kunos and Microsoft/Turn 10, for example because of AC’s Ferrari licence which was announced at a very stage of developing. I know Kunos made a simulator for Ferrari but also SMS worked together with the Italian brand (Test Drive Ferrari Legends or so) and they have no Ferrari licence

      1. Turn 10 used to have a Porsche-like deal with Ferrari back round the time of Forza Motorsport 3. Unlike EA however they would be more willing to let other games have Ferraris too.

Ford and Ferrari are the 2 biggest-represented brands in Forza Motorsport 6, with roughly 40 cars each within the 600 car roster.

  6. I think the best outcome would be for players would be for Turn 10 to keep Assetto Corsa as a serious sim on PC and console.Maybe dump the road/street cars and fold all the race cars into AC to make it more distinct and different. That would probably kill off Project Cars at the same time.
Based on n past history this probably will not happen.

Think of PRC as mortar strikes, they fire blindly hoping to hit something, the success rate is pathetically low. Yet the one time they guessed correctly(console port i think) they went crazy about it making it seem like they are higher powers.

meh.. they “guessed”.. months after Marco posted pictures of the Ps4 devkits and talked about it in interviews that we were looking into it.

I’ve always knew the people in prc were “special”.. but they always manage to outdo themselves.

  9. If this is true it would be enormous compliment for Kunos but most likely not a good thing for us, customers.

Still I’m very, VERY surprised if this is true.

  10. I almost wet my pants, you kids will post anything huh? In a parallel world maybe its happened and your beloved Forza finally has some physics worth coding wheel support for, but here in this reality Turn 10 still sucks and you need a new hobby

  11. Honestly I think this is very improbable.

If Turn10/Microsoft would purchase Kunos then you’d be in their hands just like Evolution Studios (DriveClub) was in the hands of Sony. So you’d become a Subsidiary, like Turn10 Studios is owned by Microsoft. But can Turn10 actually purchase another game developer company or would have to be Microsoft? Then what’s the point of buying Kunos if Microsoft already has Turn10, only if they want to stop Assetto Corsa competing with their games.

  12. Would be nice tho, larger team would get the necessary features added to the game. + I’d really like to see which one got the console part first, Marco posting the pics or PRC guessing it.

Ok, let’s stop these ridicolous rumors. Kunos Simulazioni is not going to be purchased by Turn10. We met them for the first and last time in 2015 at the E3. Nice people, nice conversation, but that’s all. Any negotiation has never been started. And the only reason why we have never mentioned any “Assetto Corsa 2” yet, is because we are still working on the first one. But it’s funny to see how some people like to waste their lifetime. And should tell a lot about the reliability of some so-called-sources.

  17. The downside is less competition. We need more and better competition to drive the field forward not backward console shit.

The community also need to do a better job holding studios/devs accountable for shit they do and say. (looking at you Ian Bell). Standards need to placed into what is acceptable and what isnt.

    But fuck it Money!

This article is about Microsoft’s games division getting ready to ensure world-domination, once again. They win by capturing the masses, not by catering to us “interested individuals” by meeting our niche expectations.

The whole article deserves some massive facepalm sticker, that’s all.
